Department of Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Joint Replacement Surgery
The Department of Traumatology and Orthopaedics was established in VKM Hospital about 20 years back by Dr Bharthan and Dr Poulose Chacko, pioneers who defined advanced trauma care in kochi. Over the years it flourished and is committed in providing advanced fracture care. The multidisciplinary team has the expertise in managing polytrauma and delivering ATLS. The team provides latest developments in the subspecialties of orthopedics including Adult reconstruction, Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy. As a part of charity work children with special needs are provided with free surgeries and treatment. The Orthopaedic department conducts free medical camps and bone density assessments every year to identify osteoporosis, the silent killer. The department has the expertise in provides geriatric orthopaedic care which is supported by a multidisciplinary team which includes medical geriatrics department and advanced physio rehabilitation support and home care follow up and has the support of full-fledged Trauma ICU.
